Ideal Flight: FSX front end

logo-if-whiteHow many of you have started up FSX with the intent on flying somewhere new? If so then you are familiar with the rather lengthy process of setting up the flight plan, weather, and briefing. Your impulse tells you that you want to fly as soon as possible, but to get the best experience out of it, these steps must be done manually…until now.

Introducing Ideal Flight: a new front-end utility that will take the burden out of setting up a flight in FSX. With the simple press of a button, you can create a completely new flight each time with weather, flight plan, and briefing. And that is just one of the many facets of Ideal Flight that enriches the FSX experience.

Steve Waite, the author of IF gives this summary of major features:

IF is a console-like program to enhance FSX that provides; single push button flight generation with flight plan and weather; single push button flight launch; seamless in-flight weather generation; in-flight aircraft and pilot monitor; in-flight save and advance menu functions.

Flight plans are built for the aircraft you selected to fly with its current loading. The benefits include; low flying aircraft get plans that avoid mountains if possible; plans provide top of climb and top of descent waypoints; flight time and ETA are predictable; fuel requirement is more accurately calculated, and takes into account turning around airports.

There are many other capabilities of IF that can be read in detail on Steve’s site. For $24.99 USD, this program seems to be the ultimate front-end utility for FSX and in my opinion is worth much more. I invite you to give it a go … there is a free trial available but you will soon be pressing that purchase button! Great work Steve!
