Take a nostalgic journey back in time by visiting Flight Sim Books where you will find vintage text of Flight Simulators of yesterday. One book in particular is a gem – PC Pilot by Steve Smith. It covers an assortment of early flight simulators that really take me back and will do the same for you!

Author’s note: I thought that it would be fun to dig this post from my archive as I sometimes get inquiries on methods of how aircraft are created for Flight Sim, and this is a great illustration of that. This post originally “aired” in November of 2007.
I was sorting through some paper near my desk this morning, and I stumbled upon some of the drawings and images I used as production references for the Twin Comanche. I thought that it would be fun to share these images with you and give a glimpse at the method to my madness. Continue reading
A fellow blogger has taken the time to give a great MS FS 98 through MS Flight comparison.
My previous post has generated some interesting conversation in the AVSIM forums weighing in on my prediction regarding add-on content and MS Flight. Many argue that freeware will go away if users are forced to use a single repository for add-on content, but I think the folks at MS are smart enough to realize the detrimental effects that would have. Will it work?
I have been monitoring an interesting discussion thread at the Flight Simulator Network and the discussion led to add-on capabilities of MS Flight versus previous versions. It is my understanding that there will not be any backward compatibility for add-on content for MS Flight. Continue reading

The sequel to FSAutoStart is finally here – AlacrityPC! Developed by Ken Salter for Win XP/Vista 32- & 64-bit (and as far as I can tell Windows 7), this utility shuts down any non-critical program while running a resource hungry application, such as our beloved FSX. When the user is done with the application, all of the switched off programs resume!
[EDIT] – After a few hours of tweaking this utility on my system, I’m seeing a tremendous improvement in performance of FSX. Be sure to keep the profile below “Realtime,” as that will seriously affect sounds (as I found out very quickly). Thanks FSInsider visitors for stopping by! I invite you to check out my main page for more FS and TS related topics. All support issues for AlacrityPC should be directed here: http://support.alacritypc.com. Thanks!
Work continues on the FSX version of Skip Stewart‘s Prometheus. Here are a few shots!
Unless you have been under a rock for the last few months, certainly you have heard about Microsoft Flight. Interesting how they dropped the “Simulator” part, but if you ask me, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it is a duck. No matter how it is branded, it still is a S-I-M-U-L-A-T-O-R for those of you who share my point of view. Calling it something different to appeal to a broader audience will be interesting to see if it can be done. We’ll see in the next few months what is to become of it.
